Orinda Chiropractor Low Back Pain Relief Starts Here
Our approach to low back pain relief is two-fold. First, we start by directly addressing the symptoms associated with your low back pain. Our goal in doing so is to provide immediate relief. Next, we focus on correcting the underlying cause. We find this multi-faceted approach to back pain management delivers optimal relief for our patients.
The first step for treating low back pain is to identify the underlying cause. There are many possible causes for low back pain, ranging from digestive problems like gas and bloating to kidney infections and urinary tract problems. However, for many of our patients with chronic, recurring back pain, the primary cause for their back pain is typically linked to a spinal misalignment. Spinal misalignments like a herniated disc or slipped disc can be a serious problem triggering ongoing pain. When this misalignment compresses nearby nerves, it can triggering a radiating, numbing or throbbing pain sensation along the length of the nerve. For example, sciatica, a common low back pain problem, is associated with the pressure of a herniated disc compressing the sciatic nerve. Due to this pressure, patients may sustain pain along the entire length of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back through the buttocks and down the leg.
A full evaluation and diagnostic tests are essential to identifying the source for our patient’s pain. Once this source has been identified, we can create a custom treatment program to alleviate your pain. Typically, our chiropractor will combine hands-on chiropractic adjustments with complementary therapies, such as corrective exercises that strengthen the core. A stronger core is essential to maintaining proper posture and correct spinal alignment. Otherwise, it’s all too easy to slump in your chair or hunch over a computer screen, which triggers further lumbar spine compression and aggravates low back pain.
